Phys.org reports that a newly demonstrated hollow‑core fiber platform may serve as a bridge between quantum devices that operate at disparate wavelengths. Quantum memories and trapped‑ion systems typically work in the ultraviolet or visible spectrum, whereas long‑distance fiber links perform best at standard telecommunications wavelengths. By guiding light through an empty core, the platform could allow these mismatched systems to exchange photons without converting their frequencies. If the approach works, it could pave the way toward more interoperable quantum networks.
