The Basic Case Against Human-First Ethics

A new argument against prioritizing human needs over animal welfare has been published by LessWrong. The author, James Brobin, contends that improving the lives of the four point five billion chickens currently in cages should be a top moral priority. Brobin challenges the idea that human suffering is intrinsically more important, arguing that since humans and animals share similar evolutionary origins and brain functions, their experiences of pain are likely comparable. He suggests that because animals cannot help themselves, humans have a unique moral obligation to reduce their suffering.
