'Why would anyone shoot an infant?': Killing of Palestinian children, teens by Israel surges in West Bank

Dawn reports that the killing of Palestinian children and teenagers by Israeli forces in the West Bank has surged since Israel's bombardment of Gaza began. The Israeli rights group B'Tselem counted two hundred thirty-five children and teens killed there from October seventh, twenty twenty-three through June of twenty twenty-six — roughly seven a month, versus about one a month in the seventeen years before. Dawn recounts nine-year-old Mohammed al-Hallaq, killed by a stray bullet during a clash between soldiers and youths in his village last October, and seven-month-old Sam Abu Haikal, shot in the face in Hebron while in his mother's arms. Families interviewed by Dawn describe a lack of accountability, in a territory Israel has occupied since nineteen sixty-seven.
