First US military attacks on Iran in a month prompt retaliation

world

The US has resumed military action against Iran for the first time in a month, striking Iranian rocket launchers on an island in the strait of Hormuz. US Central Command says the move came after it detected Iran preparing to lay fresh mines in the strait, and Tehran retaliated with attacks on US military bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. The Guardian notes the strikes come days after Donald Trump claimed the navy had cleared the strait of mines for the first time since fighting began in late February, a claim Iran rejected as false.
