science

According to the U.S. National Science Foundation, ocean scientists can breathe easier. The NSF announced it will halt further removals of equipment from its Ocean Observatories Initiative arrays, responding to concerns from researchers who depend on the data. The agency plans to redeploy the Endurance Array for continued servicing. Looking ahead, NSF will issue a request for stakeholder input and convene an expert panel to evaluate observational needs and plot a sustainable path forward for the ocean observation systems.
