According to Engineering and Technology Magazine, Norway's government has greenlit funding for the world's first full-scale ship tunnel. The project will cost eight point six billion Norwegian krone—roughly six hundred seventy-one million pounds—and is expected to break ground in early twenty twenty-seven. The Stad Ship Tunnel, stretching nearly two kilometers through a mountainous peninsula in western Norway, will allow ferries and coastal vessels to bypass one of the country's most treacherous shipping routes, where thirty-three maritime deaths have been recorded since the Second World War and storms occur roughly one hundred days per year. The tunnel will shave fifty-six kilometers off journeys and cut transit time to just ten minutes. Construction is expected to wrap by twenty thirty-one.
