California to buy defunct horse track and turn it into the Bay Area’s newest public park

CalMatters notes that California lawmakers plan to allocate up to one hundred twenty five million dollars from the Proposition Four climate bond to purchase the former Golden Gate Fields horse track and convert it into a public park. The Trust for Public Land aims to raise one hundred seventy five million dollars, while the East Bay Regional Park District has pledged twenty million dollars and a nonprofit partner is expected to contribute thirty million dollars, which could lower the state's contribution. Governor Gavin Newsom called the project a once‑in‑a‑century chance to restore shoreline access for millions of Bay Area residents. The proposal is contained in Assembly and Senate Bill one hundred thirteen, which lawmakers are set to adopt by Tuesday.
