Warming winters weaken New Hampshire forest's carbon sink over 20 years

Phys.org reports on new research from Northern Arizona University and the University of New Hampshire showing that warming winters are weakening New Hampshire forests' carbon-absorbing capacity. The research tracked forest carbon cycling over twenty years and found that rising winter temperatures reduce how much carbon dioxide the forests can remove from the atmosphere. This suggests forests may not be the reliable carbon sink many assume them to be.
