Sony announces end of PlayStation discs, parts of digital store in the same day

According to Ars Technica, Sony announced today it will end production of physical PlayStation game discs by twenty twenty-eight, making digital distribution the exclusive way to acquire new games on the platform. The company is also discontinuing select portions of its digital store. The move completes Sony's shift toward digital-only gaming, eliminating physical ownership and tying all game access to its digital ecosystem.
