Ohio authorities rescue 16 children confined to one room for four years

According to The Guardian, authorities in Ohio have rescued sixteen children who spent much of the past four years confined to a single room in a dilapidated home. The children ranged in age from one and a half to eighteen years, and were found in deplorable conditions with human waste throughout their living space. The rescue revealed severe developmental impacts: some children could not speak at all, and an eighteen-year-old with intellectual disabilities was unable to spell her own name. All sixteen are from the same family. Parents and grandparents face charges, though authorities describe this as an intra-family situation rather than human trafficking.
