Flock Cameras Can Surveil Cars Without License Plates
tech
Flock Safety operates automated traffic cameras used by law enforcement across the country. According to a company presentation reviewed by security expert Bruce Schneier, the system uses a technology called 'Vehicle Fingerprint' to identify cars even without visible license plates. The system analyzes visual features: bumper stickers, roof racks, decals, and temporary tags. Police can search this database to locate specific vehicles and track multiple cars believed to be traveling together. Schneier notes this significantly expands law enforcement's surveillance reach beyond traditional license plate readers.
