Lam Wing-kee, the Hong Kong bookseller whose shop sold publications critical of Beijing, has died at the age of seventy following a battle with lung cancer. According to BBC World, Lam became an international symbol of resistance against China's constraints on press freedom in Hong Kong. His bookshop represented one of the last bastions of uncensored material in a territory where political space has progressively narrowed in recent years.
