The UN's World Food Programme reports that seventeen million people across nine conflict-affected states in northern Nigeria are now facing severe hunger—the worst crisis in nearly a decade. Diminished international funding and ongoing violence have pushed food insecurity to critical levels. Stripped of their livelihoods, families are fleeing across the border into Benin. Without urgent action, the humanitarian emergency will only worsen.
