Detained Gaza doctor almost unrecognisable after injuries in Israeli jail, lawyer says

According to The Guardian World, one of Gaza's most prominent doctors is almost unrecognisable after severe injuries inflicted during Israeli detention. His lawyer, Nasser Odeh, says Hussam Abu Safiya faces what he called a tangible danger to his life, having been held for eighteen months without charge or trial. The lawyer met him on the second of July, following a transfer in late June to Israel's underground Rakefet prison. He described the doctor as struggling to breathe and speak, too weak to sit upright, and repeatedly appearing on the verge of losing consciousness.
