According to Adafruit, a community project has unlocked the potential of the Dreamcast's original operating system. The Sega console shipped with Windows CE version two point one two, a stripped-down version that powered retail games but remained hidden from users. The Windows CE Dreamcast Community Edition transforms that same runtime into a usable multitasking desktop environment, complete with windowed applications and a developing TCP slash IP stack for the Broadband Adapter—all packaged on a standard bootable disc.
