According to The Guardian, a UK government minister says one of the country's most shocking child custody scandals was ignored for decades because the victims were working-class boys from the north of England. The sentencing and youth justice minister, Jake Richards, has announced he is implementing a number of recommendations aimed at preventing abuse like that which took place at the Medomsley detention centre in County Durham between nineteen sixty-one and nineteen eighty-seven from ever happening again.
