Australia news live: ‘we’re so sorry,’ Telstra says after major mobile network outages affect trains, Eftpos and triple-zero calls

tech

According to The Guardian, Australia's largest carrier, Telstra, has apologized after major mobile network outages rippled across the country, disrupting far more than phone calls. The company's chief financial officer said Telstra does not yet know what caused the failure, which was national in scope but intermittent. The knock-on effects were wide: Victoria's regional train network ground to a halt after a radio fault tied to the outage, with a long list of cancelled services and passengers told to defer travel. Eftpos payment systems were also hit, and troublingly, some triple-zero emergency calls were affected. Telstra's message, in its own words, was simply: we're so sorry.
