Australia news live: Telstra blames ‘software glitch’ for mass outage; more than 300 triple zero calls failed

tech

According to The Guardian, a major Telstra outage across Australia disrupted emergency services and regional transport. Telstra attributed the failure to a software glitch. The company says more than three hundred calls to triple zero, Australia's emergency line, did not connect. Communications minister Anika Wells urged the public not to make test calls to triple zero while the system was being restored. The disruption also spilled into transport: a radio network fault tied to the outage brought Victoria's regional V/Line train network to a standstill, forcing a long list of cancellations, with passengers advised to defer travel where possible.
