RF hacking a cloud-controlled ceiling fan

According to Adafruit, maker Sam Wilkinson got tired of his smart ceiling fan's cloud dependency. He reverse-engineered the DreoCLF513S using radio frequency sniffing — essentially eavesdropping on the wireless signals between the remote and the fan. Once he'd decoded those signals, he built circuitry to replay them, giving him full local control through Home Assistant, no cloud required. It's a reminder that if you own the hardware, you can always take it apart and make it work the way you want.
