According to the GitHub Blog, GitHub recently tackled a sprawling ownership problem: among over fourteen thousand repositories, fewer than half had clear ownership. To fix it, GitHub validated an owner for every active repository in under forty-five days and archived the rest. The effort established repository ownership as a foundation for security and organizational governance.
