Swift nest reportedly thrown in skip during house renovations in South Tyneside

According to The Guardian, conservationists in South Tyneside fear that swift chicks were thrown into a skip during house renovations in Jarrow. The Northern Swifts Group says it was alerted on Tuesday to the destruction of at least one nest on a street where homes were being renovated by South Tyneside council. The group worries that more nests may have been destroyed during the work, which was carried out by a council-appointed contractor, despite rules meant to prevent the destruction of active nests.
