According to the Federal Communications Commission, the FCC today adopted rules to ensure Next Generation 911 networks are reliable and interoperable. NG911 replaces legacy phone systems with internet infrastructure that will let people contact emergency services by text, video, or data—not just voice. The new rules require networks to implement safeguards against outages and ensure calls transfer smoothly between providers, while eliminating outdated regulations that had limited innovation.
