French heatwave drives up demand for AC, despite concerns

France is warming up to air conditioning — literally and politically. According to France 24, this year's early heatwaves are pushing up AC adoption in a country notoriously slow to embrace the technology. Just twenty-five percent of French households have air conditioning today, but that's already a big jump from a decade ago, and it's climbing as climate change brings more extreme heat. The upside: France's nuclear-heavy power grid means the AC boom has less environmental impact than elsewhere. But questions about the technology linger.
