Datacentres drive up carbon emissions of Microsoft, Amazon and Google to a third of those of France

The Guardian reports that Microsoft, Amazon, and Google's carbon emissions increased by nearly twenty percent over the past year, driven primarily by datacentre construction. In the financial year ending March, the three companies collectively emitted one hundred nineteen million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent—roughly a third of France's emissions. All three say they remain committed to achieving net zero despite this increase.
