Datacentres drive up big tech’s carbon emissions to a third of those of France

The Guardian reports that Microsoft, Amazon, and Google's carbon emissions surged nearly a fifth over the past year, with datacentre construction driving most of the growth. Collectively, the three companies are now responsible for one hundred nineteen million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent — roughly a third as much as France emits entirely. Despite the boom, all three say they're still committed to reaching net zero.
