US launches new strikes on Iran following Trump’s threat amid fresh clashes over strait of Hormuz – Middle East crisis live

The United States has launched fresh strikes on Iran, with US Central Command saying the attacks will continue imposing a heavy cost on Iranian forces and degrade their ability to threaten commercial shipping in the strait of Hormuz. The Guardian reports that the escalation follows a renewed threat from President Trump to take control of the strategic waterway. Bahrain's military, meanwhile, has accused Iran of targeting civilians, saying its air defences intercepted and destroyed a number of Iranian missile and drone attacks, after Tehran said it had struck US military facilities in the kingdom earlier.
