Can’t Find That ISA Sound Card? No Worries!
tech
Vintage ISA sound cards have become surprisingly hard to find. Hackaday reports that engineer Schlae has created the Beavis Ultrasound, a clone of the classic Gravis Ultrasound from the era of floppy drives and dot-matrix printers. The main challenge for anyone wanting to build one is sourcing a specific chip—an AMD AM78C201—but the rest is mostly analog circuitry, glue logic, and a ROM with sound samples, matching the original. The project even recreates the IDE CD-ROM interface that sound cards included decades ago.
