LGBTQ+ pop-up in former Sydney church ordered to cancel ‘offensive’ events after religious protest

A newly opened LGBTQ-plus venue in a former Sydney church has been ordered to cancel events after religious groups objected to its opening. Divine Playhouse opened last Wednesday in a deconsecrated building with the intention of providing a welcoming space for artists. Following the religious objections, the landlord issued a notice of breach, claiming the venue had insulted and mocked Christian beliefs, and ordered it to stop engaging in offensive trade. As the Guardian reports, the venue has now halted its operations in response.
