Universities not doing enough to deal with protests and ‘highly personal’ attacks, antisemitism royal commission hears

world

At Australia's royal commission into antisemitism, a Jewish physics professor testified about the occupation of his University of Melbourne office by pro-Palestine student activists. Steven Prawer told the commission he didn't know at the time whether the occupation constituted a terrorist attack. The university initially expelled two of those activists, but later overturned the expulsions. The Guardian reports that Prawer used his testimony to argue that universities aren't doing enough to address protests and what he characterized as highly personal attacks on staff, saying institutions must clearly demonstrate they don't tolerate such misbehavior.
