A Video Screen That Is Also a Camera

Per Schneier on Security, ETH Zurich researchers have created a new type of pixel called a Fourier pixel that can both display images and simultaneously sense light. The team's breakthrough, published in Nature, works by manipulating light's intensity, oscillation phases, and polarization. By consolidating these functions into a single pixel, they're tapping into what researchers describe as a pixel's full potential for carrying information.
