Openstrap Edge makes a WHOOP 4.0 band useful without a subscription
tech
Per Adafruit, developer Abdul Sahil has reverse-engineered the WHOOP 4.0 fitness tracker and released open-source software that lets the hardware work without a paid subscription. The WHOOP normally requires an ongoing subscription; when membership lapses, the app stops talking to the device, turning purchased hardware into a paperweight. Sahil spent weeks decoding the wearable's Bluetooth communication and validated his results against an Apple Watch Ultra. The software is available on GitHub under an MIT license—giving owners a way to actually use the device they paid for.
