Ukrainian strikes on Crimea’s energy facilities have left towns without water, and volunteers are stepping up

world

Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure in Crimea are leaving civilians without access to drinking water, Meduza reports. The power outages have disabled water pumping stations across the peninsula, particularly in the north, where some areas have been without electricity for a week. Volunteers and community organizations have organized water distribution drives—this week, groups like the Achyk Yurekler organization and residents themselves began collecting and distributing water to affected communities. One karate coach distributed a metric ton of water in just twenty minutes after word spread. The water shortage is part of Ukraine's broader campaign to blockade annexed Crimea, which has also caused fuel shortages and forced the closure of businesses unable to preserve perishable goods.
