Russia has launched an app for messaging with prisoners, Meduza reports. Called Tochka Kontakta—Point of Contact—it lets users send texts, voice and video messages, photos, and files to inmates, though all correspondence passes through a censor first. The review process takes up to three business days. Messages cost about three rubles each; letters run thirty-five rubles. The app is already active at three penal colonies in northwestern Russia and will soon reach major app stores. Users can also purchase entertainment subscriptions for prisoners in categories like sports, music, humor, and news—each for ninety-nine rubles.
