The UK's online regulator Ofcom has launched a formal investigation into TikTok over concerns the platform hasn't adequately protected children from harmful content. Per The Guardian, the watchdog is specifically concerned about TikTok's age verification system, which appears ineffective and may be exposing young users to posts about self-harm and suicide. The probe comes almost a year after the Online Safety Act brought new child protection rules into effect.
