Family devastated by ‘unacceptable’ charges over methanol deaths of Australian teenagers in Laos

world

The families of two Australian teenagers killed by methanol poisoning in Laos say the charges being prepared over their deaths are unacceptable. The Guardian reports that Bianca Jones and Holly Morton-Bowles, both nineteen, were fatally poisoned while drinking at a backpackers hostel in Vang Vieng in late twenty twenty-four, and authorities are now preparing to lay lesser charges the families have called bitterly disappointing. The Australian government says it is deeply frustrated and will keep pressing for what it calls real charges with teeth.
