ICE arrests human rights lawyer who fled Chinese crackdown
world
The Guardian reports that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested Wu Shaoping, a Chinese human rights lawyer, in Pennsylvania. Wu fled China at the end of twenty nineteen amid a crackdown on human rights lawyers, then traveled to the United States on a tourist visa and filed an asylum claim in twenty twenty. He is still awaiting a decision on that claim, and his arrest has raised fears that he could be deported to China, where his supporters say he would face persecution.
