Smoke from Canadian wildfires is sweeping south across the Northeast and into New York City. The Guardian reports that pollution levels spiked as the haze drifted across a wide swath of the United States. Residents are dealing with stinging eyes and the acrid smell of burning wood—many pulling on masks as the National Weather Service issued air-quality alerts. The smoke has drifted so far it's now reaching out into the Atlantic.
