NASA Pushes New Wing Design to Find Structural Limits

tech

NASA researchers have completed structural testing of an experimental wing design aimed at making commercial aircraft more fuel-efficient. The fifteen-foot wing, called SWEET-15, features a lightweight design supported by aerodynamic struts. NASA News reports the wing successfully withstood all anticipated in-flight forces, and when engineers deliberately pushed it beyond its design limits, it held up to one hundred twenty-seven percent of maximum load before failing. The results validate NASA's innovative manufacturing approach for creating lighter, stronger aircraft structures.
