Israeli ministers announce plan for new illegal settlements in Gaza and West Bank

The Guardian reports that Israel's defense and finance ministers have announced plans to establish three illegal settlements in Gaza and allocate more than four hundred million dollars to expand construction in the occupied West Bank. The announcement comes as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right coalition moves to consolidate control over Palestinian territories ahead of national elections scheduled for late October. Israel's military commander for the region has described the outposts as 'security partners,' as the government races to expand its territorial footprint before its political mandate expires.
