France: 2,000 hectares lost in forest fires

world

France is confronting one of its worst wildfire seasons in generations. France 24 reports that the country has not seen so many fire outbreaks since World War Two, following record-breaking heatwaves. One of the largest blazes has scorched thousands of hectares in the historic Fontainebleau forest south of Paris, with roughly two thousand hectares lost. In response, the Fondation du Patrimoine has launched a fundraising campaign to help restore the damaged woodland by replanting the forest.
