Acuario Inbursa in México D.F., Mexico

other

Mexico City's Acuario Inbursa, per Atlas Obscura, is Latin America's largest aquarium—a twenty-six-meter-deep underground complex funded by Mexican magnate Carlos Slim. The four-floor facility descends through Arctic waters, mangroves, reefs, and beach environments down to the seabed, housing over three hundred fifty marine species both common and bizarre: penguins, manta rays, poisonous frogs, and puffer fish coexist in theatrically designed spaces styled as a sunken ship and submarine interiors. Fed by twenty-two million liters of salt water from Veracruz, the aquarium rents its rooms for private events like underwater wedding proposals and hosts concerts during Mexico City's monthly Night of Museums celebrations.
