This week marks a century since the Grand Mosque of Paris was inaugurated. Originally built as a tribute to Muslim soldiers who served in the French army, it has become the nation's longest-serving Islamic place of worship and a landmark for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Rector Chems-Eddine Hafiz tells RFI that the mosque remains an integral part of the French Republic — a testament to how Islam has found its place within French society over the past hundred years.
