Dozens missing after passenger ferry sinks off coast of Guyana

A passenger ferry carrying one hundred sixteen people sank off the coast of Guyana late Saturday, The Guardian reports. Guyanese authorities say sixty-seven passengers have been rescued so far, among them fifteen children, while a large search-and-rescue effort continues for dozens still missing. Officials have described the sinking as one of the worst maritime disasters in the country's history. Guyana, on the northern coast of South America, relies heavily on river and coastal ferries to connect communities separated by water.
