A Very Simple Game Theory of Pronoun Degendering

other

According to a post on LessWrong, blogger Bryce Stansfield offers a game theory perspective on pronoun degendering resistance: trans women may object more than trans men or non-binary people because existing gendered pronouns currently affirm their identity. A cited study backs this up, showing clarifying trans women's pronouns decreased their experiences of 'degendering,' while the intervention had no effect for others. Stansfield argues trans women would bear a cost during the long transition to degendering, even if they might prefer the end-state—a cost other groups don't face.
