Journalists at iStories and Verstka report that at least seventy-seven Russian conscripts, most around twenty years old, died in the opening months of fighting along the Kursk region border during Ukraine's twenty twenty-four incursion. More than thirty others are still listed as missing two years on, though reporters expect those cases will eventually be reclassified as deaths, following a pattern seen throughout twenty twenty-five. Conscripts described being sent to the border starting in late March twenty twenty-four, sometimes without their families' knowledge, making up as much as eighty-five percent of personnel at some positions. By the second anniversary of the fighting, according to the Ukrainian project "I Want to Live," all conscripts held in captivity had been released through prisoner exchanges.
