Costa Rican diplomat emerges as strong contender to be first female head of UN

Rebeca Grynspan, a Costa Rican diplomat and former vice-president, has emerged as the surprise frontrunner to become the United Nations' first female secretary-general. The Guardian reports that Grynspan, whose parents fled Poland during the Holocaust, currently leads the UN's conference on trade and development. She's viewed as a continuity candidate and has tacit support from the current secretary-general, António Guterres.
