A shot-scraper-style JSON API on Bun 1.4's new Bun.WebView
dev_tools
Simon Willison's Weblog notes that Bun 1.4, the first stable release since the project's rewrite in Rust, arrived on Thursday. The update adds a host of features—including Bun.Image, Bun.markdown, and a new Bun.WebView API that enables browser automation via macOS WebKit or Chromium's DevTools Protocol. Performance gains are highlighted, with idle CPU usage cut by a factor of five, memory consumption reduced up to thirty‑five percent, and start‑up time fifty percent faster on Linux. The author’s prototype shows the JSON API can run in a container using roughly two hundred megabytes of RAM, making it a lightweight option for headless web tasks.
