Psychiatry’s diagnostic bible is finally getting a biological upgrade

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, often called the bible of clinical psychiatry, is moving toward integrating biological data into its diagnoses. As Ars Technica tells it, the manual has historically omitted biology because the underlying science was too preliminary for a clinical guide. This lack of objective biological measures in the most recent version, released in twenty thirteen, has led to criticism from researchers and clinicians regarding the validity of psychiatric diagnoses.
