Pims fire: Mustafa Kamal says 'no one will be spared', calls for reforming health sector
world
Pakistan's health minister, Mustafa Kamal, told the Senate that "no one will be spared" following Wednesday's fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, which killed fourteen infants, and called for reform of the health sector. Dawn reports the prime minister has ordered an inquiry, with a report expected soon, and that on-duty staff found responsible for negligence will face punishment. Separately, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry announced compensation of five million rupees for each affected family, saying most of the infants died from smoke inhalation rather than burns, which allowed them to be identified by name tags placed on their arms after birth.
