Show HN: SubSmith – Turn your own videos into language-learning material
tech
A developer who was tired of juggling video players, dictionaries, and flashcard apps while learning Japanese has built a tool to streamline the process. SubSmith lets you drop in your own video or audio, generates a transcript locally, and lets you look up words, replay lines, and export sentences as Anki cards. The developer shared it on Hacker News on Friday, asking for feedback on where the workflow breaks down, and whether requiring an account for the free trial is too much friction.
